May Arts Marathon:

Candace Jensen’s May Arts Marathon

May Arts Marathon Participant: Candace Jensen

Mission: Natural & Hand-made Art Materials, Calligraphy, Short Essay, Poetry & Drawing

Message: I’m really proud to contribute to the May Arts Marathon for CASP SVT. I will be producing poetry, short essays, calligraphy and drawings, and also will share some of my homemade art supplies and foraged natural color. On some days, the efforts will be cumulative towards longer or larger artwork and compositions— and others will be one-off efforts. Its always wonderful to make a commitment to regular creative practice, and even better so that we can use my studio time as direct support for social justice! I’m very glad to be able to support local and regional asylum seekers through CASP SVT’s work, helping to create a more welcoming, supportive & diverse community in Southern Vermont where I am proud to live and work, myself.

The May Arts Marathon is CASP’s key fundraiser, and CASP hopes to raise $50,000 this year. With all the uncertainty around the new administration, one thing we know for sure is that people who are experiencing violence and terror in their home countries will continue to seek asylum in this country. Sponsors like you are key to CASP being able to support its mission of cultivating a supportive community for asylum seekers in Southern Vermont, while fulfilling basic needs and accompanying them on their journey towards building a better life in this country.

The May Arts Marathon is a community effort. I am going to be sending out my own creative work to my sponsors, and am proud to sponsor a few of my fellow Art Marathon participants. I will aim for 7 days a week but it will be a minimum of 5 days each week! Together, we support asylum seekers who, in turn, enrich our community with their determination, energy, and diverse experiences.
