May Arts Marathon:

Lost Mile Designs

May Arts Marathon Participant: Timothy Hayes

Mission: I plan to use this time commitment as motivation to explore new designs in wooden sculpture and/or sustainably built furniture, using wood from our local woodland. I’m already designing art pieces that include some expression of protest regarding our current political & environmental crises. Every $10 of donation to my efforts for CASP will secure one ticket to a raffle of one of the pieces I create this May.

Message: I’m excited to help CASP with their extraordinary work in our community. With all the uncertainty around the new administration, one thing we know for sure is that people who are experiencing violence and terror in their home countries will continue to seek asylum in this country. Sponsors like you are key to CASP being able to support its mission of cultivating a supportive community for asylum seekers in Southern Vermont, while fulfilling basic needs and accompanying them on their journey towards building a better life in this country.

I make furniture that uses local materials, utilizing mostly hand tools, and leaving the lowest environmental footprint as possible. My designs collaborate with the natural shapes of saplings and branches, using mortise and tenon joinery to create what I call Fine Rustic furniture. In the past year I have been inspired to try sculpting, having had the blessing of tutelage by my late father. So, along with making furniture, that adventure in sculpture will continue this May, in the Arts Marathon for CASP.

Please help support the important work of the Community Asylum Seekers Project.
