May Arts Marathon:

Nature & Resilience: Wildlife Portraits for Change

May Arts Marathon Participant: Kaitlyn Whitaker

Mission: I will be creating traditional media pieces of Vermont’s wildlife to celebrate the natural world and support those building new lives in our community.

Message: This May, I’m proud to participate in the May Arts Marathon to support CASP’s mission of welcoming and assisting asylum seekers in Southern Vermont. CASP hopes to raise $500,000 through this fundraiser, helping to meet basic needs and provide community for those building new lives in our area. Through my work, I hope to reflect the beauty, resilience, and interconnectedness of all living things.

For this project, I will create four original wildlife paintings or drawings featuring animals native to Vermont, using traditional mediums. Each piece will be a celebration of the natural world we share and a reminder of both the fragility and strength of life in all forms.

Throughout the month, I’ll be sharing daily work-in-progress updates five days a week, including behind-the-scenes glimpses into my creative process. Feel free to follow along on Instagram (@slug.mackenzie) and TikTok (@slugmackenzie) for daily updates, and my website (slugmackenzie.com) for weekly roundups.
