Mission: Power Quilts to Comfort and Inspire!
Message: Hello, and welcome to my May Art Marathon!
My work is about the power of domesticity, and the ways that our homes shape our identities. For so many, however, remaining at home is not an option, as violence and terror threaten their survival in their home countries. Please join me in the studio as I dedicate the month of May to help raise $50,000 for the Community Asylum Seeker’s Project. By donating to CASP, you will help fulfill the basic needs of asylum seekers in Southern Vermont, helping to cultivate a supportive community and build a better life in this country.
This month I will be creating new works in my ‘Comforters’ series, a collection of quilts with text that distill both personal and political truths. Follow along on Instagram (@rruthshafrr) and through my newsletter (https://ruthshafer.substack.com/) to see my process, progress, and the thinking behind these works. Donors will receive stickers, postcards, and/or small original works!
