I just wanted to finish up with a final post for the month and also thank you all for donating to CASP, and supporting my music. Today's post is of another unreleased song that is destined for my next album release, I hope you feel sufficiently cool for getting the very first preview of this music before anyone else! ;) This is a song I wrote called Don't Ever Change, a love song to Mother Earth in honor spring time and hopeful beginnings.
I hope you'll keep supporting CASP and the work that they do, it is increasingly important in such a difficult political climate. If you're not already on my mailing and you'd like to sign up to keep up to date with all of my musical comings and goings, you can do so at lissafiddle.com. AND if you are ever interested in commissioning a new tune or song for a special occasion or person in your life, I have information about that, as well as lots of albums, music merch, and lessons here. (You might want to check out the Grow Music T shirts, which are perfect for Mother's Day, if I do say so myself ;)
At the end of April, the Thelonious Portrait is still not yet complete, but I wanted to give you a reminder of where we started, how we got here, and a peek at what is yet to come.
The first image is the final, full-sized sketch that I used as a pattern. The second image shows what the portrait looks like with the fabric pieces tacked into place. The final image shows how stitching with many, many colors and many, many hand stitches layers in texture, shadow, and highlights. For this image, I started to layer in the first shadows and highlights on his trouser leg, so give you an idea of where work will be continuing.... Sketch
I had not planned to show this quilt again until it has borders. I'm so excited to get them on!
Then sadly, my old, comfortable, and reliable sewing machine ceased working today.
I have a newer machine with new fangled improvements that definitely don't help. I have a really hard time using it, so it sits in the closet until I'm desperate.
This machine triggers my PTSD around the Impossible quilt, which is what I inaugurated it with.
If I can thread the bobbin, or find the pre-threaded bobbins I bought to make it easier, you will see more quilts. If not, you may see any manner of thing!
I hope you have the magnificent spring that today seems to promise.
Love, Ruth
Ps. I post this pic because I might rip out a couple of rows to rearrange them the way I had intended the blocks to go. This is precisely the reason that I have 4 boxes of unfinished projects!
