Seeking artists, writers, woodworks, poets, potters, and creatives of all stripes to participate in CASP's April Arts Marathon fundraiser!
CASP's annual Arts Marathon will run throughout April. Now is the time to gear up and bring together the creative community. We hope you will join us!
In theses stressful times we all need respite from the headlines. Especially news of the cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants. The respite can be found in making art and in enjoying it. Last year, I looked forward to the arrival of our work in my mailbox. It was better than a hot bath! Art takes me outside of myself and my worries. Making art is a statement of the resilience of the human spirit and a recognition of our need for beauty, laughter, and awe.
The proceeds from the Marathon are critical to CASP's ability to accompany asylum seekers who, against all odds continue to strive for a life of dignity and independence despite terror at home and now terror in the streets of America. This week CASP staff is meeting with families to pan for the worst. If parents are detained, who will care for their children? We are guiding them through the process of setting up temporary guardianship and the conversation are heartbreaking. Please contribute your talents during the Marathon so that we can continue this hard work.
How does it work? The artist commit to practicing their art work five days a week during the month of April. Each of these days they send out an image of their work to sponsors. These sponsors have committed to supporting the artist by making a donation to CASP. Donations will then provide housing, basic living expenses, and legal fees for asylum seekers. Funds raised also support case management staff who assist clients with transportation, schooling, healthcare, and a multitude of needs.
CASP will provide ongoing support to artists as you figure out how to share your work and communicate with your sponsors.
