Leadership Transition
We extend our congratulations to Liv Berelson, who has accepted a new opportunity at our partner organization, Vermont Asylum Assistance Project, and will be stepping down as Executive Director at CASP. We are grateful for her leadership, vision, and dedication during her time here, particularly for her work in establishing pro se (self-representation without legal counsel) legal clinics to increase our capacity in assisting asylum seekers. We wish her continued success in this next chapter and look forward to close collaboration with her through her work at VAAP where she will continue to improve the area's ability to support asylum seekers and strengthen the southern Vermont community.
We're also please to announce that Sharon Hall-Smith will be stepping into the role of Executive Director. She is a passionate supporter of immigration justice and has both worked and volunteered for a variety of programs serving asylum seekers and refugees. Most recently, she served as the Resettlement Director of the IRIS- Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Service office in Hartford, CT, welcoming and supporting over 200 refugees each year. We are confident that her experience and passion will guide us forward into a strong and impactful future.
In the interim period, CASP board members, Rachel Worthington is serving as Interim Director to ensure a smooth transition. Rachel has a decade of experience in the non-profit sector as a community practitioner and senior program manager. Her work centers on building resilient and thriving communities and food systems. We greatly appreciate her support and leadership during this time of change, and Liv, Rachel, and Sharon will work together for the next several weeks to maintain continuity and support our staff, clients, and volunteers as we move forward.
Please join us in welcoming Rachel and Sharon into their new roles!
