Community Supporters
Last Spring, The Putney School held a Charitable Work Day Program that benefited CASP. Below is an excerpt from the letter the school sent along with the donation, describing their fundraiser.
" Around 12 years ago, a Putney School student had the idea to organize a community service day that was a win-win-win scenario. Putney area residents "hire" Putney School student to work 3-4 hours doing yard work and other tasks on a Saturday in May (win #1 : Local residents, often senior citizens, get help at their homes), then the community members "pay" the students for their time, but this is in the form of a donation to charity(win #2: A large amount of money is raised when 225 students work for a few hours... and often people donate more than the hourly rate.) Win #3 is the important time our students get to spend with local residents who often provide them with food and a hard day of labor, our students are always glowing with a sense of pride in the work they've accomplished for someone and excitement about the stories they've heard from new people they've met. They also know their hard work is raising money for a larger purpose...
This day has become an important part of our school's culture and the planning of the event starts in the winter when a few students present to our school community about a charity... and the school votes on which charity to support. this year, the vote was to support your organization. In addition to our school community learning about the important work of the Community Asylum Seekers Project, the community members who hire our students also learn a little bit about your organization... we... sent 120 students to 32 sites. Wood was stacked, koi ponds were dug, and potatoes were planted, but most importantly, we raised over $5000 for your organization...
Thank you for all of the work you do to support asylum seekers, We hope these donations will continue to support the important work you do in our community."
CASP is so appreciative of the school, the students, the teachers, advisors, and the community for their support. CASP's work depends on fundraisers like the Putney School Charitable Work Day Program. It's wonderful to see youth taking a lead in bettering our community.
Thank you again to the Putney School for their support!
